Over the past five years, START SOMA has featured some pretty amazing artists
in our series of PAINTED ROOMS art shows at the HOTEL DES ARTS in San Francisco.

So we are VERY excited to announce NEW ART 08 - our first group show at the ART HOTEL in
several years to focus exclusively on EMERGING ARTISTS!
AND WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW ARTISTS
 
 
 

 

NEW ART 08
SEPTEMBER 17, 2008
Hotel Des Arts | San Francisco
We intend to showcase several dozen emerging artists from the Bay Area, and feature several hundred works of art - filling all five floors of the ART HOTEL with NEW ART.

Ideally, we are looking for artists who have NOT yet shown their work extensively. We are, however, willing to be at least somewhat flexible on this point - a few group shows is OK, but if you have already had sold-out solo shows internationally, and were included in the last Whitney Biennial, NEW ART 08 is probably not the show for you!

If you are interested in being in the NEW ART 08 exhibition, simply send us a couple jpegs of your artwork, or a link to your website.

The NEW ART 08 exhibition is a juried art show, and the six person jury includes:

.• APEX - START SOMA artist in residence
.• VULCAN - START SOMA artist in residence
.• CHOR BOOGIE - START SOMA artist in residence
 .• CASEY O'CONNELL - START SOMA artist in residence
 .• SAMALA - START SOMA + START MOBILE creative director
.• JOHN DOFFING - START SOMA + START MOBILE founder

There are NO SUBMISSION FEES or anything of the sort.

In fact, artists who are selected for inclusion in NEW ART 08 will keep 100% of their sales - there are NO gallery commissions for this show.

So if you or someone that you know is an emerging artist looking for an opportunity to show your work publicly for the first time, by all means, SEND US AN EMAIL!

And while we are focusing primarily upon PAINTING, we are nonetheless accepting submissions across ALL media - including digital, as the hotel now has several dozen flat panel displays.

We anticipate that NEW ART 08 will feature a few dozen artists and several hundred pieces of art - which will completely fill the hotel with NEW ART.

CALLING ALL CREATORS
START SOMA IS LOOKING FOR DIY + CRAFT VENDORS,TOO!

We decided to open up EVERY room on the main floor of the art hotel for the NEW ART 08 OPENING, and feature local artisans, designers and DIY enthusiasts INSIDE the painted rooms.

We will be featuring several dozen local vendors - who will also keep 100% of their sales - no gallery commissions whatsoever.

In addition to filling all the public walls in the art hotel with NEW ART, we intend to showcase an eclectic assortment of local creative talent INSIDE the rooms as well.

So if you or someone you know is a knitter or a clothing designer or a milliner or a jewelry designer or really, ANY sort of independent CREATOR - simply send us an email to be considered for inclusion in the September 17, 2008 opening.

We are looking for a wonderfully eclectic mix of CREATORS for what we hope will be the first of many such handmade events at the Hotel des Arts.

CURATOR'S NOTE: we are hoping to feature at least a couple of creators of what could perhaps best be termed HIGH-TECH CRAFTS.
